The camp medic assures me I don’t have to tell the others about my bite. She says it’s just a surface wound. Any symptoms I’m experiencing are unrelated. A seasonal bug, not the virus. Should clear up in a few days on its own.

So for a week, it’s business as usual. Group supply runs. Sharing meals in the mess tent. Catching shut-eye in the bunkhouse when we can.

But as I get worse, I remember that the first symptoms of infection are false memories.

And our camp doesn’t have a medic.
